Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
How long does the Live 680NC rate Bluetooth listening with ANC enabled?
JBL's U.S. product page and model QSG give up to 50 hours with Bluetooth and ANC on. The 80-hour maximum is for Bluetooth listening with ANC off; neither is a measured guarantee for a particular listener or battery.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the Live 680NC keep ANC on while listening through its included cable?
The model QSG shows powered wired audio with ANC and ambient controls. JBL does not publish a wired-mode ANC runtime, so the Bluetooth 50-hour rating must not be carried over to the cable.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I keep a phone and computer paired at once?
JBL documents two-device Bluetooth multipoint and source switching. That is not simultaneous mixing, and the 50-hour ANC-on rating is not assigned to the two-link arrangement. The headphone-only package also does not include the separately sold Smart Tx transmitter.
Explore this need in the finder →JBL's Live 680NC is a current on-ear ANC model with Bluetooth 6 multipoint, an included analog audio lead, a carrying pouch and an up-to-50-hour Bluetooth ANC-on rating. For the exact Black U.S. item JBLLIVE680NCBLKAM, JBL also shows powered wired ANC, but publishes no separate battery figure for either that cable mode or two-device multipoint.
Start with the on-ear design and exact item
The U.S. Live 680NC page identifies the Black finish as the headphone-only product. JBL's selected Blue, Green, Sand and White pages show separate item numbers; its color selector also displays Orange and Purple, but I have not bridged those latter names to exact U.S. item numbers here. The Black hero image is therefore a reference to the Black item, not every color or a Smart Tx bundle.
JBL calls the design on-ear. That means the pads rest on the ears, rather than making the enclosed cup fit found on an over-ear headphone. If cup coverage, pressure, glasses clearance or a stable seal matter to you, the form factor should be checked before treating a feature list as decisive. JBL lists 231.16 g and a 40 mm dynamic driver; those are specifications, not measurements of comfort, sound, or isolation. No hands-on wear or ANC test is claimed in this review.
50 hours with ANC, 80 hours without
The U.S. page, specification sheet and quick-start guide agree on the central music figures: up to 50 hours with Bluetooth and ANC on, and up to 80 hours with Bluetooth on and ANC off. The second number is not ANC-on playback. JBL also gives up to 28 hours of talk time with ANC and 33 hours without, about two hours for a full charge, and four extra hours from a five-minute speed charge. Talk and music durations are different use cases; the speed-charge claim is not a guarantee for a particular listener or battery condition.
The distinction matters if your routine mixes calls, music, ambient modes or a long day away from power. A shopper choosing a 50-hour ANC rating should compare that figure to their own planned listening time while remembering it is a manufacturer maximum. The materials do not say that ANC-on battery tests used two connected devices, so the number is assigned only to a single-device Bluetooth plan. No dual-link duration is supplied.
Two Bluetooth connections are for handoff
JBL describes connecting the Live 680NC with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and switching between audio sources. That can simplify movement between a computer and phone, but it is not the same as mixing both streams. Bluetooth 6.0 and LE Audio are listed, while the U.S. pages do not establish a codec choice or guarantee compatibility with every LE Audio feature on every source.
The Live feature page describes True Adaptive ANC 2.0, real-time calibration, app adjustment, Ambient Aware, TalkThru, spatial sound and Personi-Fi. Those maker-described controls may be relevant when comparing models, but they do not prove a particular reduction in aircraft rumble, office voices or wind. JBL's technical material lists four microphones and describes two beamforming microphones for calls; the four-mic adaptive-ANC feature and call-mic copy should be read as separate system descriptions rather than collapsed into one count.
Wired ANC is powered; battery-free playback is unknown
The headphone-only U.S. package lists a 1.2 m USB-C-to-3.5 mm audio cable and a carrying pouch. JBL's quick-start guide illustrates wired listening with the headset powered on and ANC, ambient controls, TalkThru and Hi-Res audio available. This supports an analog-plus-powered-ANC arrangement. It does not give that arrangement its own runtime, so neither the Bluetooth 50-hour ANC rating nor the 80-hour ANC-off rating should be transferred to cable use.
The guide and product page do not confirm whether audio continues passively through the cable after the headphone is powered off or drained. For someone who needs a power-off fallback, that remains an open fact, not an implied yes or no. JBL does not include a USB-C charging cable in the listed package, so account for one separately if needed. Confirm that the seller is offering the exact headphone-only configuration rather than assuming the pictured product includes extras.
Live-series additions and the Smart Tx boundary
Compared with JBL's Tune 680NC, Live 680NC keeps the same broad on-ear, Bluetooth 6, multipoint and 50-hour Bluetooth ANC-on profile. JBL lists a larger 40 mm driver and a 231.16 g mass for the Live versus 32 mm and 161 g for Tune; that is a size/mass distinction, not evidence of better sound. Live's Black package adds a carrying pouch and the Live feature family. A Smart Tx transmitter is advertised as compatible but sold separately, not part of this reviewed package.
Before purchase, check the exact Black item number, return terms, on-ear fit, included cable and pouch, charger lead, and whether you actually need the separately sold transmitter. Ask the seller to confirm the package if the item is open-box or used. For a phone-computer workflow, two-device switching is documented, but no simultaneous stream mixing or two-link ANC runtime is promised. For cable listening with cancellation, the manual supports a powered mode but not its duration. These are meaningful fit boundaries to keep beside the attractive headline maximum.
