A useful fit for

An earlier-model reference for a shopper comparing the exact U.S. Article No. 508337 who needs around-ear ANC, two active Bluetooth connections, or a documented powered 2.5 mm cable route.

The main tradeoff

Sennheiser marks the PXC 550-II end of life. Its 20-hour Bluetooth-plus-ANC and 30-hour only-ANC figures describe different modes; the analog route requires a charged headset for ANC, and neither rating establishes an older unit's current battery condition.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

How long does PXC 550-II last with ANC on over Bluetooth?

The SEBT5 manual specifies 20 hours with Bluetooth and ANC activated. It separately lists 30 hours with only ANC activated, with or without an audio cable; do not apply the 30-hour-only-ANC figure to Bluetooth playback or to a used unit's present battery.

Can the PXC 550-II stay connected to a phone and laptop?

Yes. Its manual lists two active Bluetooth connections and explains that audio playback comes from one device at a time. That supports switching between a phone and computer, not simultaneous mixing of both audio streams.

Can I use the PXC 550-II with ANC over a cable, or with a dead battery?

The manual says ANC works with an audio cable when the rechargeable battery is charged. It also directs cable use when the battery is empty, but ANC then is not documented; treat powered analog ANC and passive battery-depleted cable playback as separate arrangements.

What should I check before buying an older PXC 550-II?

Match the U.S. Article No. 508337 and manual model SEBT5, then check the used headset's charging and battery condition, the 2.5 mm cable, in-flight adapter, carry case, ear pads and return terms. The U.S. manufacturer page labels the product end of life and unavailable from its own store.

The PXC 550-II is an earlier around-ear ANC reference with a particularly useful set of separated connections: two active Bluetooth links, a powered 2.5 mm analog route, a passive cable fallback and USB digital audio. Sennheiser's manual rates Bluetooth-plus-ANC at 20 hours and only-ANC operation at 30 hours, so a shopper should not compare those numbers without checking the connection mode.

Confirm the exact model and age

The U.S. product page identifies this as PXC 550-II Wireless, Article No. 508337, and says the model is end of life and no longer available from Sennheiser's own store. Its instruction manual names model SEBT5. This is not the original PXC 550 Article No. 506514; the first model has its own different manual, product record and Bluetooth 4.2 specification. If an offer combines the two names or does not show a clear model code, stop and verify which headset is actually being sold. The SEBT5 manual describes a closed, circumaural design with 32 mm drivers, four ANC microphones, three speech microphones and an approximate weight of 227 g. It provides USER and MAX ANC switch settings, and its Smart Control app can customize ANC options. Those are useful design and control facts, not a promise of a seal on your head, call clarity in a noisy room or any measured reduction in cabin noise. The manual notes that consistent low-frequency noise is especially well suppressed while speech or higher-frequency sound can remain perceptible.

Choose a Bluetooth threshold for the Bluetooth mode

The manual lists Bluetooth 5.0 and aptX, aptX Low Latency, AAC and SBC codecs. It specifies two active Bluetooth connections, with audio playback from one device at a time. That supports keeping, for example, a phone and computer connected and switching playback; it does not mean both streams are mixed. Pairing and reconnecting still depend on the source-device settings and the headset's current pairing state. For battery planning, the distinction is explicit: the specifications list 20 hours with Bluetooth and ANC activated. They separately list 30 hours with only ANC activated, with or without an audio cable. The 30-hour number is not a Bluetooth-plus-ANC rating. When listening from a wired source, the cable arrangement needs its own source and power conditions. Both numbers are manufacturer operating ceilings, not site measurements or guaranteed performance from an older battery.

Powered analog and passive playback

The manual's included analog lead has a 2.5 mm plug at the headset and a 3.5 mm plug at the source. Connecting it turns on flight mode and disables Bluetooth. With the battery charged, the headset powered and ANC selected, the maker says ANC can operate with the cable. Its 30-hour “only ANC” maximum is the applicable published figure for that operating family; the manual does not claim that a Bluetooth codec or a second device link is active in this mode. The battery-depleted case is different. Sennheiser directs users to connect the audio cable when the rechargeable battery is empty, but says the active noise-cancellation feature can be used only if the battery is charged. For shopping purposes, record this as passive analog playback without ANC, not as the powered cable-ANC plan. This same separation is why a finder result should not combine a request for battery-free audio with a demand for ANC. The manual also describes direct USB audio from a compatible Mac, PC or mobile device through the micro-USB cable, which charges the headset at the same time. It says ANC can be used over USB if the battery is sufficiently charged, but it does not give that USB audio route a separate rated runtime. USB is therefore another documented input, not the same thing as the analog jack or the Bluetooth multipoint route. Check the host's actual USB-audio support rather than assuming every USB port sends sound.

Inspect the contents and condition

The manufacturer manual lists an approximately 1.2 m micro-USB charging/data cable, an approximately 1.4 m analog cable, an in-flight adapter, carry case, Quick Guide and Safety Guide. Confirm the precise seller's package because an opened or refurbished older set may omit an item. Check that the battery charges, remains charged under use, and does not trigger an unusual warning; inspect the ear pads, hinges, 2.5 mm jack and cable. Ask about returns if the listing does not establish condition. The official EOL notice does not tell you whether any independent seller has stock. This is a source-based assessment, not a hands-on review or measured ANC test. The PXC 550-II may be worth comparing when its exact offer suits a buyer who wants the documented two-link Bluetooth mode and different powered/passive cable options. Its age, micro-USB connector and mode-specific runtimes are meaningful tradeoffs against newer references. Decide first whether your essential requirement is Bluetooth ANC, analog ANC while charged, passive listening with power off, or digital USB audio; then check the exact manual and source-device support for that one arrangement.
