Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the AONIC 50 Gen 2 stay connected to a phone and computer at once?
Yes. Shure's manual says the headphones remain connected to two Bluetooth devices and receive their inputs alternately. Its PLAY app lets you choose Static behavior or Dynamic switching to the most recently played source. That is source switching, not two mixed streams; the manual also gives a multipoint setup sequence.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I keep ANC when I use the included analog cable?
Shure lists a 3.5 mm analog cable and says the headphones retain PLAY DSP settings regardless of the audio-source connection; the guide separately documents the ANC switch. This supports a powered analog-ANC arrangement, but Shure does not publish a wired ANC runtime. The distinct USB Hi-Res mode explicitly disables ANC. Do not count the general 45-hour headline as an ANC-on cable rating.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its 45-hour headline prove 45 hours of ANC-on listening?
No. Shure's U.S. page and manual say up to 45 hours but do not attach that figure to an ANC-on test mode in the reviewed evidence. The fact record therefore leaves rated ANC-on runtime unknown; the finder will not treat the headline as a 45-hour ANC rating. Use the exact instructions and leave margin for calls, volume, settings and battery age.
Explore this need in the finder →The Shure AONIC 50 Gen 2 is a current U.S. over-ear ANC model with a useful, well-documented connection story: Bluetooth multipoint, a 3.5 mm analog lead, and USB-C digital audio are distinct routes. It is not an automatic match for every route at once. This is a source-based assessment of Shure's Black U.S. SBH50G2-BK package, not a hands-on test or measurement.
Four ANC settings, not a measured quietness claim
Shure describes the Gen 2 cancellation system as hybrid ANC. The control and ShurePlus PLAY app expose Light, Moderate, Max and MaxAware settings; Environment Mode is a separate way to admit surrounding sound. That range is more useful to describe than a single “on” label, but the manufacturer's modes do not tell a prospective wearer how much of a particular voice, vehicle or cabin sound will be reduced. I have not measured the AONIC 50 Gen 2's attenuation or compared it in a controlled test.
The PLAY app can save digital signal-processing adjustments on the headphones, and Shure says those settings remain active across audio-source connections even after closing the app. That gives the app a setup role without requiring the phone to remain the audio source. But one connection is a specific exception: in USB Hi-Res Listening mode, Shure says ANC, Spatializer, switch customization, app EQ and the headphone microphone are unavailable. A digital cable is therefore not one universal mode.
Bluetooth multipoint has a practical boundary
The manual documents two Bluetooth connections at once and alternation between the incoming sources. Its PLAY app offers Static behavior, which leaves the current audio connection unaffected when the second source begins, and Dynamic behavior, which changes to the most recently played source. This is useful for a phone and computer that need to remain connected, but it is not two-stream mixing. The finder counts the documented Bluetooth arrangement only; an analog cable does not become a two-device Bluetooth setup.
There is a similar distinction in the included cables. The U.S. standard package lists a 1 m USB-C cable and a 1.5 m 2.5 mm-to-3.5 mm analog cable. The manual confirms USB-C digital audio and a 3.5 mm analog input. Its source-independent DSP statement, read with the ANC controls, supports a powered analog ANC plan; Shure does not publish a cable-mode ANC runtime. The guide also does not confirm whether sound continues through the analog cable when the headphone is switched off or its battery is depleted, so passive playback remains unknown here.
Why the 45-hour headline does not become a finder rating
Shure gives an “up to 45 hours” battery figure on the product page and in the manual, but the reviewed U.S. product page and model guide do not attach it to ANC-on or ANC-off operation, a Bluetooth codec, or an operating test setup. It would be misleading to enter 45 hours in an ANC-on matcher field simply because the product has ANC. The review records the general figure while leaving the mode-specific numeric fact unknown; the finder therefore does not credit the model toward an ANC-runtime minimum.
The manual lists 334 g, a 50 mm dynamic driver and support for aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Voice, AAC, SBC and LDAC. These are reference specifications rather than conclusions about sound or how the headset will feel. A codec is useful only if the source device supports it. The physical fit still depends on the wearer's ears, glasses, head shape and seal; the product photograph and weight cannot resolve that uncertainty.
Buy the exact package, not just the family name
Shure's U.S. page identifies the Black standard package as SBH50G2-BK and lists a zippered case and the two cables. The product page does not include the SBD1-UC USB-C Bluetooth adapter; Shure lists that item in the distinct AONIC50-UC Teams-certified package. If your work setup depends on that adapter, the standard retail code is not interchangeable with the UC configuration. Also verify the exact model, condition, accessory set, seller's return terms and battery condition on any individual offer.
The manufacturer's Gen 2 announcement describes improvements over the previous AONIC 50 generation, but those are Shure's own launch claims, not comparative testing by this site. I would shortlist this headphone for the documented Bluetooth two-device arrangement, adjustable ANC controls and separate wired options, while treating fit, noise reduction and battery behavior in your routine as unresolved until checked against the exact model and source devices.
