Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can this headphone remain connected to my phone and computer at once?
Sony's Help Guide supports two simultaneous Bluetooth connections and playback switching between them. It does not mix two music streams; one source is heard at a time. The connection remains wireless and uses battery power.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the 24-hour ANC rating apply to every Bluetooth codec?
No. Sony's detailed manual gives up to 24 hours with AAC or SBC, 22 with LC3, and 20 with LDAC for Bluetooth music playback with ANC active. The chosen codec and settings matter; each value is a manufacturer maximum, not a guaranteed runtime.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I use the cable for ANC or listen after switching the headset off?
Sony documents cable-connected ANC only while the headset is on (up to 20 hours maximum in the Help Guide) and explicitly says the headset cannot be used when turned off. It therefore does not provide passive battery-free cable playback.
Explore this need in the finder →This is a source-based assessment of the US Platinum 1000X THE COLLEXION, identified in Sony's support system as WH-1000XX and sold with the Platinum suffix WH1000XX/W. Sony positions it as a separate anniversary-era 1000X design rather than a color name for the WH-1000XM6. Its defining choice is a more elaborate finish and design treatment; the specifications also bring a heavier over-ear set and a shorter manufacturer-rated ANC-on music interval than Sony's XM6. This review evaluates documented features and boundaries, not personal listening, comfort, noise-cancellation measurements, or use over a trip.
Design-led flagship, with a real weight tradeoff
Sony's US announcement describes Platinum and Black versions, a bespoke driver, a wider padded headband, metal accents, and refined vegan leather. Those are manufacturer design descriptions, not independent material, durability, or comfort findings. The US support specification lists the closed headphone at approximately 320 g. For context, Sony lists the WH-1000XM6 at about 254 g, so the Collexion carries roughly 66 g more on the published figures. That is a concrete fit-check consideration; it cannot tell us whether a particular listener will find the headband pressure, cup space, heat, or longer-wear comfort acceptable.
The Collexion is therefore not an automatic upgrade for someone who simply wants a lighter travel headset. Its case and finish are part of the proposition, while the functional checklist should remain separate from the visual one. Sony's box list names a carrying case, connection cable, warranty card, and reference guide. Check the exact U.S. listing for the delivered package and warranty region rather than assuming that a retailer's accessory bundle is identical.
Noise control and wireless listening, stated carefully
Sony says the Collexion uses the same Multi-Noise Sensor technology, 12-microphone arrangement, and Adaptive NC Optimizer found in the WH-1000XM6. The shared feature description is not a substitute for an independent head-to-head test: published specifications do not establish how much noise any wearer will hear on a particular train, aircraft, or office floor. The US model supports Bluetooth 6.0, SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 audio formats, as well as a stated two-device multipoint connection. Codec and LE Audio use still depend on the transmitting device, settings, and service.
Sony's Help Guide describes multipoint as two simultaneous Bluetooth connections and a way to switch playback between them without reconnecting. It is not a mixer for two concurrent music streams. A phone and laptop can remain connected, but audio is routed from one source at a time; an incoming call or host-device handoff can change what you hear. This makes the feature useful for a work-and-phone routine, provided the shopper is comfortable configuring and checking the connection behavior.
The most important runtime figure depends on connection and codec. Sony's Help Guide lists maximum ANC-on Bluetooth music playback of 24 hours with AAC or SBC, 22 hours with LC3, and 20 hours with LDAC. With ANC off, the corresponding maxima are 32 hours for AAC/SBC and LC3 and 28 hours for LDAC. The U.S. overview specification gives the broad 24-hour ANC-on and 32-hour ANC-off figures, while the detailed manual reveals the codec-specific reductions. Over the supplied cable, with the headset on, Sony lists up to 20 hours with ANC and 30 hours with ANC inactive. Each is a manufacturer maximum, not a guaranteed duration for calls, high-volume listening, or an aging battery. By comparison, Sony lists up to 30 hours ANC-on for the lighter XM6 in Bluetooth mode, but the route and codec conditions matter. Travelers should compare their intended setup with the appropriate maximum and reserve time for variation rather than treat a rating as a flight guarantee.
The cable is useful only while the headset is powered
The included connection cable plugs into a stereo mini jack. Sony's Help Guide says the powered-on headset can be used as noise-cancelling headphones while connected by cable; Bluetooth is not active in that wired arrangement. This gives a source with a 3.5 mm output a wired ANC option, but the battery remains part of the plan. Sony explicitly says the headset cannot be used when turned off. As a result, the Collexion does not meet a requirement for passive, battery-free analog playback, even though it comes with a cable. Do not infer a powered-off listening mode from another Sony model.
This distinction matters more than a generic “wired” checkbox. If the requirement is to keep ANC on at an aircraft entertainment jack, the documented route is cable plus headset power; Sony's manual gives that arrangement a separate maximum ANC-on time of 20 hours. If the requirement is simply to continue listening after the battery is exhausted, Sony's instruction rules that out. Those wired figures are separate from the Bluetooth codec-specific runtimes.
Sony's Help Guide also explicitly says the headset is not waterproof and warns against rain, snow, or sweat exposure. Do not treat the vegan-leather finish or closed shell as a moisture rating; if a workout or wet-weather use is planned, this is a documented limitation.
Who should shortlist it
The strongest evidence-based case is for someone who actively values the Platinum-or-Black design, wants Sony's feature set and multipoint, and accepts the higher 320 g listed weight and 24-hour ANC-on maximum. It is a weaker fit when low headset mass, battery-free wired listening, a longer published ANC interval, or independently verified noise-cancellation performance is essential. Compare the exact model name before ordering: WH-1000XX is not WH-1000XM6, and a shared 1000X family name does not make their weight, battery rating, finish, or operating modes interchangeable.
