Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Bathys MG hold a phone and laptop connection at once?
Focal's FAQ states two simultaneous Bluetooth device connections and automatic switching between sources. It describes a handoff, not simultaneous mixed playback.
Explore this need in the finder →Will its analog cable work when the battery is depleted?
The manual says the switch must be ON for Jack use, and Focal says the headphones require power for any operation. A 3.5 mm cable is therefore not documented as passive playback with the battery empty.
Explore this need in the finder →How should I interpret the 30-hour ANC figure?
The manufacturer assigns up to 30 hours to Bluetooth with noise cancelling. Its 35-hour Jack and 40/42-hour USB-DAC statements are separate, and the USB figures are inconsistent; none should be transferred to another route or treated as guaranteed personal runtime.
Explore this need in the finder →The Bathys MG should be assessed as a different Focal model, not as an upgraded color of the original Bathys. Its defining published change is a magnesium M-profile driver instead of Bathys's Aluminium-Magnesium driver; the current specifications also move from Bluetooth 5.1 to 5.2. Those details may justify a closer comparison for an enthusiast buyer, but they do not supply a listening test, a measured ANC improvement or a personal-fit result.
A distinct driver, not a quantified sound advantage
Focal identifies the Bathys MG as a closed-back Bluetooth headphone with active noise cancellation and a 40 mm magnesium dome. It describes three ANC modes—Silent, Soft and Transparent—and says the newer microphones are optimized. Both Bathys product pages list eight microphones, however, and Focal supplies no comparative microphone measurement on these pages. The useful distinction is the manufacturer's stated hardware and model identity; it would be too strong to conclude from it alone that the MG cancels more noise or sounds better. The published weight remains 350 g. Focal lists Graphen Grey and Chestnut finishes. This reviewed reference is Graphen Grey, SKU FOAHALNOMBMG400; Chestnut, SKU FOAHALNOMBMH000, stays a separate finish record. The MG name and the magnesium driver distinguish the whole model family from original Bathys. The finish change does not. Focal's March 2025 press image makes the Chestnut version visible:
Bluetooth and battery figures need their conditions attached
Focal lists Bluetooth 5.2 Multipoint with SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX Adaptive. Its FAQ says two devices can be connected simultaneously, with automatic source switching; only one source plays at a time. That is a concrete phone-and-computer use case, not simultaneous music mixing. A compatible transmitter is also needed for any codec beyond the options the source device supports. For Bluetooth with noise cancelling, Focal's product specification states up to 30 hours. Use that as a maker maximum, not a real-world guarantee or an estimate for a secondhand battery. Focal also describes a five-hour playback gain from a 15-minute fast charge and about 1.5 hours for a full charge with a suitable supply. The charger is not listed among the supplied accessories.Do not merge Jack and DAC behavior
The package listing includes a 1.2 m 3.5 mm Jack lead and a 1.2 m USB-C cable. The manual says the switch must be ON for Jack mode and Bluetooth disconnects when the analog cable is attached. Focal lists 35 hours in Jack mode, but does not explicitly say that ANC remains enabled over that connection or assign an ANC-on rating to it. It is also not a passive empty-battery route: the headphones need power for operation. USB-C DAC mode has a different profile. Focal advertises audio up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and the manual explicitly permits ANC attenuation in DAC position while the battery remains. Runtime is inconsistent across the manufacturer's own page: the table gives 42 hours in USB-DAC mode and the FAQ gives 40. Neither is identified as an ANC-on test. The honest comparison therefore preserves the conflict and leaves USB ANC hours unknown rather than selecting a convenient number. Focal's notes also identify limitations for USB calls on iOS and possible host/OTG requirements; check the exact phone or computer before relying on this route.Weight, materials and package should be checked in person
Focal lists 350 g and describes an aluminium and magnesium yoke, a genuine-leather headband and replaceable foam ear pads. These are source-reported materials, not a comfort assessment. For a buyer planning all-day wear, head shape, heat, glasses and cushion seal are still unresolved personal questions. Compare the return policy and inspect the exact condition rather than assuming a premium material will fit every wearer. The listed box includes a rigid case, the Jack and USB-C cables and a Quick Start guide. Confirm all pieces with the seller, especially on an open-box item. The Graphen Grey and Chestnut color identities have their own manufacturer SKUs; the selected image here depicts Graphen Grey only. Do not use it as a picture of Chestnut. How to choose between Bathys and Bathys MG
The original Bathys review covers the Aluminium-Magnesium-driver version. On the published information, the MG adds a magnesium dome, Bluetooth 5.2 and Focal's optimized-microphone description; the base model has Bluetooth 5.1. Both weigh 350 g, publish a 30-hour Bluetooth ANC ceiling, offer two-device multipoint and include Jack/USB-C routes. Neither model documents passive battery-free playback. Their analog ANC details remain unconfirmed, and their USB-DAC duration wording is inconsistent. These facts create a meaningful model comparison without inventing a sound-quality ranking. Bathys MG is most worth investigating if its particular driver construction is part of the buying brief and the buyer can audition or return it through a clear seller policy. It is less compelling as a blind specification upgrade if the required differentiator is a longer published Bluetooth ANC ceiling, lighter weight, battery-free cable use, or a confirmed wired ANC runtime: the consulted source pages do not establish those benefits. Review the Focal Bathys MG page, its manual and product sheet. Confirm the exact color/SKU, included contents, source compatibility and return terms for the U.S. offer.Key specifications
